RhinoA fourth installment in the series of expansive David Bowie box sets focusing on different periods in the late singer’s career, Loving the Alien (1983-1988), will be released on October 12.
The collection will be available as an 11-CD set, a 15-LP vinyl package and digitally. Loving the Alien includes remastered editions of three Bowie studio albums — 1983’s Let’s Dance, 1984’s Tonight and 1987’s Never Let Me Down — an updated version of Never Let Me Down featuring new instrumentation, the Glass Spider (Live Montreal ’87) album, the previously unreleased Serious Moonlight live album, a remix collection called Dance, and a compilation titled Re:Call 4 featuring single edits, soundtrack recordings, remixes and more.
The updated Never Let Me Down features contributions from various musicians who’ve worked with Bowie, including guitarists Reeves Gabrels and David Torn, drummer Sterling Campbell and bassist Tim Lefebvre. The reworked album also boasts a string quartet arranged by Nico Muhly and a cameo by Laurie Anderson. A radio edit of one of the tracks, “Zeroes,” can be purchased now as a digital single, and also will be released as a part of a limited-edition 7-inch picture disc on September 7.
Re:Call 4 includes single versions of the hits “Let’s Dance,” “China Girl” and “Modern Love”; tunes from the soundtracks of The Falcon and the Snowman, Absolute Beginners and Labyrinth; David’s duet with Mick Jagger on the Motown classic “Dancing in the Street”; and two live duets with Tina Turner.
The CD and vinyl versions of Loving the Alien both come packaged with a hardback book featuring rare and previously unseen photos, archival reviews, and notes penned by Nile Rodgers and other Bowie studio collaborators.
