Island Records/Interscope/UMCA remastered version of U2‘s 2002 compilation The Best of 1990-2000 will be released as a two-LP 180-gram vinyl set on September 28.
The album features hits and standout songs from four U2 studio efforts — 1991’s Achtung Baby, 1993’s Zooropa, 1997’s Pop and 2000’s All that You Can’t Leave Behind. Also included are a couple of songs that were new at the time, as well as “Miss Sarajevo,” a collaboration with Luciano Pavarotti and Brian Eno that U2 released under the name Passengers, and “Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me,” from the Batman Forever soundtrack.
Among the well-known tunes on the comp are “Even Better than the Real Thing,” “Mysterious Ways,” “Beautiful Day,” “One,” “Stay (Faraway, So Close!),” “Stuck in a Moment You Can’t Get Out Of” and “Until the End of the World.” Four of the tracks were remixed for the collection by British producer/engineer Mike Hedges.
The tracks that were brand-new when The Best of 1990-2000 was released are “Electrical Storm” and “The Hands that Built America.” That last song was written for the soundtrack of the 2002 Martin Scorsese film Gangs of New York.
The Best of 1990-2000 debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200 and has sold more than 1 million copies in the U.S.
News of the upcoming reissue coincides with the release today of remastered vinyl editions of three other U2 titles: Achtung Baby, Zooropa and the 1998 compilation The Best of 1980-1990.
