Post Hill PressFounding Toto guitarist Steve Lukather will release his autobiography next month, and it promises to be a real Thriller.

The book, titled The Gospel According to Luke, will be published on September 18, and will feature Lukather’s captivating and often funny recollections of his years with his famous band and his adventures as a highly sought-after session musician.

Not only did Lukather find huge success with Toto during the late 1970s and ’80s, but he and his band mates also contributed to many other major artists’ recordings, including several tracks on Michael Jackson‘s Thriller — the best-selling album of all time.

In addition, Steve has served as a member of Ringo Starr‘s All Starr Band for the last several years, and has appeared on the ex-Beatles drummer’s last two studio albums.

Writing about Toto in his book, Lukather notes, “How many bands collectively (all members past to present) can say that they have played on 5,000 albums, had around 225 Grammy nominations, and were pretty much the house band on the biggest album in history?”

The book also will include Steve sharing behind-the-scenes and in-studio experiences with such stars as Paul McCartney, Stevie Nicks, Elton John, Joni Mitchell, Don Henley, Roger Waters, Quincy Jones and Aretha Franklin.

The Gospel According to Luke can be pre-ordered now, and an audio version of the book, featuring narration by Lukather himself, is available from Audible. Rock-guitar whiz Steve Vai wrote the memoir’s foreword.

Steve’s currently on tour with Toto, which launched a North American leg of its “40 Years Around the Sun” trek on Monday in Vancouver, Canada.
