BMG’60s pop star Mike Love of The Beach Boys and ’90s pop stars Hanson have teamed up to record a cover of a 1976 Beach Boys song, “It’s O.K.,” which was released today as a digital single and via streaming services.

The collaboration came about while Love was working with Hanson on a forthcoming holiday project, and the musicians decided to create a new version of “It’s OK” because it’s among Hanson’s favorite Beach Boys songs.

“I loved re-recording the song with Hanson. I think they brought a great energy to it,” says Love in a statement. “Brothers Taylor, Zac and Isaac grew up singing harmonies like my family did and they’ve written some great songs over the years. It was a blast working together.”

Adds Taylor Hanson, “Twenty-five years ago, we were singing Beach Boys classics to an audience of a handful at our first concert. To be asked to collaborate with Mike Love, a music icon to us, was a total honor. There are few things greater than being granted mutual respect from an artist you greatly admire.”

“It’s OK” was co-written by Love and his longtime Beach Boys band mate Brian Wilson, and appeared on the band’s 1976 album 15 Big Ones. The song reached #29 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Says Love of the tune, “The Beach Boys have a storied history with this song and the new version of ‘It’s OK’ continues this legacy. It’s a reminder that regardless of what’s going on in your life…get out and enjoy the summer.”
