ABC RadioThe Who‘s Pete Townshend has been busy working on the band’s next studio album, but the legendary guitarist and songwriter reveals that he’s taking a little break from the project to enjoy some rest and relaxation.
“Today I am starting a two-week vacation prior to the final session on the Who album in early April, and rehearsals for the tour in late April,” he writes in a message on The Who’s official website.
“The timing isn’t great, I don’t want to travel with so much distance to be covered in the coming year, and the weather isn’t looking very promising here in the U.K. in March, but I need to close down my brain for a while.”
As for how the new record is coming along, Pete says, “I feel happy about the way the album is unfolding, and [singer] Roger [Daltrey‘s] sketch vocals are really exciting to hear. It’s coming together, and I think should sound great when it’s finished.”
Townshend adds that he’s looking forward to rehearsing for the first leg of The Who’s Moving On! tour, which kicks off May 7 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The trek will feature the band playing with a different orchestra at each stop.
Regarding his vacation plans, Pete says, “I am going to do some walking, stretching, reading, and hanging out with [my wife] Rachel and our dogs, and do a bit of guitar practice. Nice. Groovy. Cool. Fab.”
