Mark Davis/WireImageJust two weeks after Neil Young revealed that he was working on a new studio album with the current lineup of his old backing band, Crazy Horse, the folk-rock legend reports that the record is already done.
“We just had the album playback!” Young reveals in a message on his Neil Young Archives website. “11 new songs, ranging from 3 minutes to 14 minutes of music each, were played at full volume on our stereo system…We believe we have a great Crazy Horse album, one to stand alongside Everybody [Knows] this is Nowhere, Rust Never Sleeps, Sleeps With Angels, Psychedelic Pill and all the others.”
Neil says the album’s currently untitled, adding that it “stands as one of the most diverse albums I have ever made.”
He also points out that the new record will hit stores in the early fall, which will result in “schedule changes and release date adjustments” that will push back “older re-release projects.”
Young says the new Crazy Horse album’s release will be “a proud moment for all involved,” while noting that the project was “something we were not sure we would get to do.” He adds, “We did it though and it rocks! I am so thankful.”
As Neil says, the album was recorded “at 9200 feet elevation in the Rocky Mountains.” He reports that he and Crazy Horse “plan to tour in support of this album” and band members “all hope there will be more.”
The current Crazy Horse lineup features the band’s founding rhythm section — bassist Billy Talbot and drummer Ralph Molina — as well as longtime E Street Band multi-instrumentalist Nils Lofgren, who was a member of Crazy Horse during the 1970s and rejoined the group last year.
