Courtesy of NetflixA new trailer offering the first glimpse of the upcoming Netflix documentary Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story by Martin Scorsese has premiered on YouTube and Netflix.com.
The preview features a montage of clips from the Martin Scorsese-directed movie, which delves into Bob Dylan‘s Rolling Thunder Revue tour of 1975, including archival footage of various performances and behind-the-scenes moments, as well as new interviews with Dylan, Joan Baez, late actor/playwright Sam Shepherd and others involved in the trek.
The trailer includes a brief segment in which Dylan reflects on the tour: “It wasn’t a success, not if you measure success in terms of profit,” he says.
Dylan’s also seen commenting about the chemistry between him and his tour mate and old friend Baez, noting, “Joan Baez and me can sing together in our sleep.”
For her part, Baez says of Dylan, “The charisma that he has I’ve never seen anywhere, before or since.”
Among the performances featured in the trailer are renditions of “A Hard Rain’s a-Gonna Fall,” “Hurricane” and “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door.”
The Rolling Thunder Revue tour featured Dylan delivering loose, shambolic performances with accompaniment from musicians including Baez, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, The Byrds‘ Roger McGuinn and ex-David Bowie guitarist Mick Ronson. Joni Mitchell and legendary beat poet Allen Ginsberg also made guest appearances during the trek.
Rolling Thunder Revue premieres on Netflix on June 12, the same day it’ll get its official premiere at theaters in New York City and Los Angeles.
As previously reported, a massive companion box set titled Bob Dylan — Rolling Thunder Revue: The 1975 Live Recordings, featuring every one of Dylan’s performances that appear in the film and much more, will be released this Friday, June 7.
