Neil Young has revealed the name of his upcoming studio album with his old backing group Crazy Horse. The title? Colorado, so named after where the project was recorded.
In a July 25 post on his Neil Young Archives website, the folk-rock legend reported that he celebrated the “turning in” of the album that day with his longtime studio engineer, John Hanlon, the Reprise label crew, and Frank Gironda, a member of his management team.
Young also revealed that the album is dedicated to his longtime manager Elliot Roberts, who died in June at age 76.
“Elliot loved this record,” wrote Neil. “He said ‘It’s the songs.'”
Also in the message, Young noted, “Since the first Crazy Horse album, [1969’s] Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, so many things have happened! Life is a gift and I am so happy to be opening it again…to share with everyone. We are very excited.”
As Young reported in late April, Neil and the current incarnation of Crazy Horse — bassist Billy Talbot, drummer Ralph Molina and multi-instrumentalist Nils Lofgren — finished recording what he described as “one of the most diverse albums I have ever made.” He said at that time that he expected release the album in the early fall, and also planned to tour with Crazy Horse in support of it.
Young currently has two confirmed upcoming performances on his schedule: September 14 at the inaugural Harvest Moon: A Gathering benefit show in Lake Hughes, California, and on September 21 at the 2019 Farm Aid festival in East Troy, Wisconsin.
