Bruce Glikas/WireImageMeat Loaf has been absent from the stage for the past couple of years, but he made a return this week in a big way, joining the cast of Bat Out of Hell — The Musical on Broadway to perform “You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth (Hot Summer Night).”
Footage of the moment is now posted on YouTube. Joining the cast during the curtain call, Meat Loaf says, “OK, you guys have been wanting to do this long ago, so we’re going to do it now! Give me a little, ‘You took the words right out of my mouth!” The cast members took turns singing lines from the song, with Meat joining in here and there.
It was the first time Meat had appeared onstage since he joined the cast of the Toronto production of the musical in 2017. As Rolling Stone notes, the singer’s had numerous health problems in recent years; in 2016, he collapsed onstage while performing in Canada.
Bat Out Of Hell – The Musical opened on August 8, 2019, and will run through September 8. It incorporates the songs Jim Steinman wrote for all three Bat Out of Hell albums, as well as two previously unreleased songs: “What Part of My Body Hurts the Most” and “Not Allowed to Love.”
