Apple Corps Ltd./Capitol/UMeThe 50th anniversary of The Beatles‘ Abbey Road album will be celebrated Thursday by the City of Los Angeles at and near the famous Capitol Records Tower. The festivities will begin at 1 p.m. PT with the dedication of a temporary crosswalk at Vine Street which recreates the iconic zebra crossing in front of London’s Abbey Road Studios.
Star Trek: The Next Generation star Sir Patrick Stewart will join some L.A. officials at the dedication ceremony, which also will include the unveiling of an “Abbey Road at Vine” sign.
The celebration, which will run until 3:30 p.m., will feature Beatles music and merch pop-up shops, a custom double-decker bus that will play the new 2019 mix of the album, food trucks, free Abbey Road cupcakes and a limited number of Abbey Road-themed commemorative items.
The street party, which is free and open to the public, will take place on Vine Street between Hollywood Boulevard and Yucca Street.
As previously reported, a 50th anniversary reissue of Abbey Road will be released this Friday, September 27, in multiple formats and configurations.
