Courtesy of Julian’s AuctionsFormer Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman will be auctioning off a selection of instruments and other memorabilia from his personal archive at a three-day sale to be held May 29-31 in Beverly Hills, California.
The event, hosted by Julian’s Auctions, will feature more than 1,000 lots, including many bass guitars that Wyman played during his 30-plus years with the British rock legends, as well as stage-worn clothing, awards and more.
The item expected to sell for the highest price is an orange 1969 Fender Mustang bass that Wyman used at concerts and on recordings in 1969 and 1970. It’s estimated to fetch between $300,000 and $500,000.
Other pricey instruments include a 1978 custom-built Travis Bean Custom bass Bill used with the band during the late 1970s and 1980s that’s expected sell for between $200,000 and $300,000. A black 1981 Steinberger Custom bass played during The Stones’ 1982 tour and the 1988 A.I.M.S. Gala concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall is estimated to bring from $100,000 to $200,000.
Also going up for bid is Bill’s historic 1962 VOX AC30 model bass amplifier, which he used during his successful audition for The Stones, and which is estimated to sell for between $80,000 and $100,000.

Leading up to the event, an exhibit of Wyman’s artifacts will be displayed at The Museum of Style Icons in Newbridge, Ireland, from March 10 to April 20; the Hard Rock Cafe in New York City from May 4 to May 10; and Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills from May 18 to May 28.
