Adopt the Arts
Adopt the ArtsBlack Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith will be honored at the 2020 Sound & Vision gala and awards ceremony, scheduled for May 12 in Los Angeles.
The gala, which will be held at The Avalon Theatre, is the eighth intallment of an annual benefit concert hosted by Adopt the Arts, a music-and-arts education organization co-founded by former Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver drummer Matt Sorum.
Smith and Butler, along with acclaimed visual artist Shepard Fairey, will be recognized at the event for their “meaningful impact on our culture through their music and art.”
The night will also feature performances from GN’R guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan, Metallica‘s Robert Trujillo, Billy Idol guitarist Steve Stevens, Velvet Revolver’s Dave Kushner, Rob Zombie guitarist John 5, The Cult‘s Billy Duffy and Ozzy Osbourne‘s Ordinary Man producer and guitarist Andrew Watt.
“Doing these annual events for Adopt the Arts are always rewarding with so many great artists stepping in to help out,” says Sorum in a statement. “I’m very grateful for all of my musician and artist friends who I’ve met throughout my career that believe in this organization.”
He adds, “I feel this year might be our best yet with the great Chad Smith and Geezer Butler along with the incredible Shepard Fairey as our honorees. This show is going to Rock!”
Previous honorees have included ZZ Top‘s Billy Gibbons, late Allman Brothers Band drummer Butch Trucks, Cheap Trick‘s Robin Zander, ex-Deep Purple bassist/singer Glenn Hughes, Sammy Hagar and Moby.
