
Courtesy of Bard CollegeDavid Byrne will give the commencement address at Bard College’s spring graduation ceremony and will also be presented with an honorary doctorate of fine arts by the school.
The festivities will take place at 2:30 p.m. ET on May 23 in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, on the college’s Seth Goldfine Memorial Rugby Field.
Avant-garde multimedia artist Laurie Anderson, who is the widow of Lou Reed, will also receive an honorary doctorate at the ceremony, which marks Bard’s 160th commencement.
In announcing Byrne as the speaker and an honorary degree recipient, the school notes his long resume of artistic accomplishments and endeavors, including being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Talking Heads, his various solo and collaborative music projects and his hit Broadway stage production David Byrne’s American Utopia.
As previously reported, after ending a successful run at the Hudson Theatre last month, American Utopia will return for a new 17-week engagement at the venue that begins September 18.
