A&M RecordsSoundgarden has withdrawn from the lawsuit against Universal Music Group, The Hollywood Reporter and Rolling Stone report.
The lawsuit concerns the alleged damaged of master recordings in the 2008 Universal Studios vault fire. An article by The New York Times Magazine published last June reported that thousands of masters by hundreds of artists were destroyed in the fire.
While Soundgarden is “dismiss[ing] without prejudice their individual claims, and withdraw[ing] as a putative class representative” in the case, the grunge icons “reserve their rights to proceed in this matter as absent class members,” according to the reports.
Soundgarden was among five original plaintiffs in the suit, along with Hole, Tom Petty‘s widow Jane Petty, the estate of Tupac Shakur, and Americana singer-songwriter Steve Earle. A rep for Shakur’s estate dropped off along with Soundgarden, while Hole withdrew last August.
