Credit: Nela KoenigJohn Fogerty is among the many stars taking part in the 40th anniversary edition of PBS’ July 4 television special A Capitol Fourth, which this year will feature pre-recorded performances filmed in various famous locations across the U.S.
The event’s lineup also includes Motown legends The Temptations, soul great Patti LaBelle, country stars Trace Adkins, Brantley Gilbert and Lauren Alaina, opera singer Renée Fleming, pop artist Andy Grammer, gospel singer Yolanda Adams, This Is Us actress and singer Chrissy Metz, Tony-winning Broadway performers Brian Stokes Mitchell and Kelli O’Hara, and the National Symphony Orchestra.
The performances were shot in New York City, Nashville, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and the event’s traditional site, Washington, D.C.
In addition, the program will feature footage of a live fireworks display in D.C.
This year’s A Capitol Fourth special also will feature salute to American workers on the front lines of the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, a segment celebrating the contributions of heroic African Americans from throughout U.S. history, and a tribute to wounded military members and their families.
The show will be co-hosted by John Stamos and singer and actress Vanessa Williams.
“For four decades A Capitol Fourth has paid tribute to our nation’s birthday and the hopes and dreams of all Americans,” says the event’s executive producer, Michael Colbert. “This year, our broadcast will reflect what we as a country have faced and the challenges ahead, while showcasing our message of inclusion, patriotism and love.”
A Capitol Fourth will air July 4 at 8 p.m. ET on PBS, and also will be available for viewing by U.S. troops serving around the world on the American Forces Network. In addition, the show will stream on Facebook, YouTube and PBS.org, and will be available as on demand until July 18.
