RhinoFifty years ago this past February, Jethro Tull played its first-ever concert, at London’s famed Marquee Club, and frontman Ian Anderson and company are commemorating the milestone this year with special tour. The band also will mark the anniversary by releasing a pair of CD compilations on May 25.

The first retrospective is a three-CD set titled 50 for 50, which features 50 tracks that include at least one track from each of Jethro Tull’s 21 studio albums, spanning from 1968’s This Was to 2003’s The Jethro Tull Christmas Album. The songs featured on 50 for 50 include most of the British group’s best-known tunes, among them “Living in the Past,” “Aqualung,” “Cross-Eyed Mary,” “Heavy Horses,” “Bungle in the Jungle,” “Too Old to Rock ‘n’ Roll: Too Young to Die,” “Skating Away” and “Locomotive Breath.”

The second compilation is a single-disc set called 50th Anniversary Hits that boasts 15 memorable selections that also appear on 50 for 50. A vinyl version of the album featuring 10 tracks will be issued on August 31.

Meanwhile, Jethro Tull launched its 50th anniversary tour in early March in Denmark. The trek will alternate between European and North American legs throughout 2018, with the first series of North American concerts kicking off May 30 in Phoenix.
