Speaking with Lars Ulrich on his Beats 1 show It’s Electric!, Corgan further explained why Wretzky is not involved.
In a clip from the interview, Corgan says that he tried for two years to “repair” his relationship with Wretzky, but was never able to meet with her in person.
“I still haven’t been in a room with her for 19 years. It was a telephone thing,” Corgan says.
“You’re trying to sort of say, ‘This can happen, this can happen, what do you think, what do you think?'” he continues. “Always very pleasant, great, awesome, and only when it became obvious that it wasn’t the way she wanted it to be, it turned into this other thing which was reminiscent of the past.”
Corgan also shared his disappointment that Wretzky publicly shared text messages they sent each other, and said that he, Iha and Chamberlin are “comfortable” with their current arrangement.
“The thing that keeps you on the rudder is the music and the fact that, somehow, when the three of us come together, this magical thing happens that’s bigger than me, and I have no problem admitting to that,” Corgan says. “And if that’s not your guiding principle, then it is a s***ty reality show.”
“We don’t want the s***ty reality show, we really don’t,” he adds. “We’d rather just stay on the music, and if we can do that, great.”
The Shiny and Oh So Bright tour kicks off July 12 in Glendale, Arizona.
