Paul McCartney, who just released his latest album, Egypt Station, was Jimmy Fallon‘s guest on Thursday’s The Tonight Show, and the two decided to surprise some unsuspecting fans riding an elevator in 30 Rockefeller Center, during what they thought was an NBC Studios tour.

The segment, taped on Wednesday, featured an elevator transporting different groups of fans opening its doors to reveal Fallon and McCartney engaging in various activities. For instance, one group saw the pair casually lounging in velvet robes while reading the newspaper. Another saw them playing ping-pong. “Wanna see a magic trick?” Fallon asked yet another group, making McCartney appear from behind a blanket.

The final joke was on Jimmy and Paul. As they sang The Beatles‘ 1960s hit, “Drive My Car” in preparation to surprise another group, they were greeted by an empty elevator.

The show’s cold open also featured McCartney, this time joining Fallon and Keeping Up with the KardashiansKendall Jenner as they rocked out to “Fuh You” from McCartney’s Egypt Station album.

Among the things he later discussed with Fallon, was his intent to not make Egypt Station an album with “just a bunch of singles,” explaining, artists like Taylor Swift and Beyoncé “have got that…covered.”

“And they’ve got better legs,” he added.

As previously reported, Paul is celebrating the album’s release with a secret concert in New York City on Friday that will be streamed live on YouTube starting at 8 p.m. ET. However, he did hint the album’s title, Egypt Station,” is a clue, adding, “It might be a ‘grand’ show” — an obvious reference to New York City’s Grand Central Station.

McCartney closed the show with “Come On to Me,” from the new album.

Paul will launch his Freshen Up World Tour in Quebec City, Canada on September 17.
