Rankin; Neal Preston © Queen Productions Ltd.Among the millions of people who saw the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody is a guy who actually knew the band’s iconic frontman, Freddie Mercury: Rod Stewart.  Now, in the wake of the movie’s big win Sunday night at the Golden Globes, Rod has taken to social media to give it a thumbs-up.

Stewart shared a photo of himself smiling and posing with Mercury sometime post-1984, after Freddie shaved off his famous mustache.  Rod wrote in the caption, “Congratulations to Rami Malek & all those behind Bohemian Rhapsody on their #GoldenGlobe win. You brought the energy, love, and light of the magnetic Freddie Mercury to the big screen in a glorious film worthy of Queen.”

Malek won the Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture — Drama trophy for his uncanny portrayal of Mercury, while the movie itself was named Best Motion Picture — Drama.

As fans chimed in to “like” the photo and express their love of the movie as well, one cheeky woman wrote, “Sir Rod — when do we get a film about you?”

While there’s no plan for Rod to turn his colorful life into a movie — yet — he can look forward to watching a biopic of yet another one of his famous friends later this year. The Elton John biopic Rocketman hits theaters in May.
