Daniel Knighton/Getty ImagesWhen Steely Dan guitarist, bassist and songwriter Walter Becker died in 2017 at age 67, he left behind a bounty of great music, as well as plenty of classic guitars, recording equipment and memorabilia. Now, many of Becker’s prized possessions will be sold off during a two-day auction scheduled for October 18-19 at The Standard Oil Building in Beverly Hills, California, and online.
Among the priciest items going on the block are a signature model Sadowsky guitar that Becker often played onstage, an early Excel model hand-built archtop guitar, and a rare Senorita S.6 model guitar that dates back to the 1930s. All three instruments are estimated to sell for between $10,000 and $15,000.
Among the other guitars being auctioned is a 1957 Fender Duo-Sonic electric guitar that Becker’s shown playing in a photo featured in the liner notes to Steely Dan’s 1977 album, Aja.
The auction also will feature hundreds of other items, including amplifiers, recording gear, effects pedals and much more.
Becker’s collection will be displayed at The Standard Oil Building from Monday, from October 14 through Friday, October 18, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. PT daily. The exhibit will be free and open to the public.
The auction will be split into four sessions, scheduled for 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. PT on October 18 and 19. Online bidding will take place at JuliensLive.com.
