Courtesy of Peace of StageThere may no longer be an official Woodstock 50 concert celebrating the 50th anniversary of the famous 1969 festival, but fans can commemorate the event by purchasing pieces of the actual stage used at the historic concert extravaganza. A company called Peace of Stage is selling collectible artifacts created from bits of wood from the Woodstock stage, including a peace pendant and framed segments.
Peace of Stage was co-founded by Steve Gold, who attended Woodstock when he was 15 years old, and a few years ago obtained wood from the event’s stage that’s the source of the items the company is selling.
“We decided to create various items of that legendary festival by offering small pieces of (literally) the centerpiece of the event, the Woodstock stage — the same floorboards on which Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and other rock greats made magic — as collectibles they can treasure,” Gold explains.
He continues, “People have an intense emotional attachment to the festival, whether they were there or not. With the Woodstock 50th concert still up in the air, the original stage is the only artifact that exists for people to touch and reflect upon.”
Besides the items Peace of Stage is selling, the company has loaned six panels of wood from the stage to the Bethel Woods Museum located at the festival’s original site in Bethel, New York, for use in a current exhibit marking Woodstock’s 50th anniversary.
In addition, the company is selling small glass bottles filled with sawdust made from the stage flooring to raise money for five charities — Orange Ribbons for Jaime, Feed the Children, WhyHunger, the Jed Foundation (JED) and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund.
“We felt that each of these charities reflects the spirit of Woodstock, and it was important to bridge the generations through these contributions,” says Gold.
