Now, however, bassist Flea has broken his silence.
Responding on Twitter to a fan sharing love for the two Peppers albums Klinghoffer played on, 2011’s I’m with You and 2016’s The Getaway, Flea wrote, “I love the records with Josh too.”
“Josh is amazing,” Flea added. “And a beautiful man too. And yes John is back. Nature moves and waves are for riding.”
When another fan wrote that they “hope [Klinghoffer] knows we all love him very much,” Flea replied, “I know he feels it. We as a band feel the same way.”
The Chili Peppers announced the switch on Sunday, writing that they are “deeply grateful for our time with [Klinghoffer], and the countless gifts he shared with us.”
Frusciante’s return marks his third stint with the band. He previously played with the group from 1988 to 1992, and from 1998 to 2009.
