Courtesy of Stewart CopelandLast year, Police drummer Stewart Copeland revealed that he’ll be hosting a three-part U.K. documentary series that includes an interview he conducted with his old band mate Sting, and now official details about the program have been announced.
The show, which initially had been titled What Is Music and Why?, is now called Stewart Copeland’s Adventures in Music, and is set to premiere on the BBC Four channel on January 17, with the other two episodes debuting on January 24 and 31.
The series will feature Copeland traveling around the world to discuss how music works with fellow musicians and composers, as well as filmmakers and scientists. Sting will chat with Stewart about his songwriting process. Other people featured on the show include producer and ex-Buggles and Yes frontman Trevor Horn, jazz singer Bobby McFerrin, rapper Talib Kweli and director Francis Ford Coppola.
No word whether Stewart Copeland’s Adventures in Music will be available to view in the U.S.
As previously reported, Copeland has reunited with Oysterhead — the early-2000s supergroup that also features Phish‘s Trey Anastasio and Primus‘ Les Claypool — for a 2020 tour that includes headlining appearances at the Sweetwater 420 Fest, Bonnaroo and The Peach Music Festival.
Meanwhile, Copeland will premiere a new commissioned work for chorus and rock orchestra titled Satan’s Fall on February 7 and 8 at Roxian Theatre in McKees Rock, Pennsylvania. The piece was inspired by Books V and VI of John Milton‘s 17th century epic Paradise Lost.
Then, on February 28, Copeland will be on hand to introduce the first collegiate performance of his 2017 opera The Invention of Morel at the Honeywell Center in Wabash, Indiana. The opera will be presented by Indiana’s Manchester University on that day and on the 29th.
