Courtesy of Live NationGregg Allman may have passed away last month, but the Laid Back Festival — the music and food celebration he co-founded in 2015 — will return for a third year this fall. So far, three dates have been confirmed for the 2017 edition of the fest, honoring the spirit of the late Allman Brothers Band frontman: September 21 in Holmdel, New Jersey; September 23 in Hartford, Connecticut; and September 24 in Wantagh, New York.
The lineup for all three events includes Jackson Browne, J. Geils Band singer Peter Wolf, and founding Allman Brothers drummer Jaimoe‘s current group, Jaimoe’s Jasssz Band. In addition, Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul will perform at the Holmdel concert, while Steve Winwood will play the other two shows.
The Wantagh event will feature a main “Laid Back” stage and a smaller “Low Country” stage, the latter of which will host performances by Jaimoe’s Jasssz Band, veteran singer/songwriter Garland Jeffreys, and Scott Sharrard and the Brickyard Band. Sharrard was the lead guitarist of Gregg’s solo group.
In addition to the musical performances, the festival also will feature cuisine and beverages from more than 20 local restaurants, food trucks, breweries and wineries.
Tickets for the 2017 Laid Back Festival events go on sale to the general public this Friday, June 16, at 10 a.m. ET. Presale tickets will be available starting Tuesday, June 13. For more information, visit LaidBackFestival.com, LiveNation.com and Ticketmaster.com.
More festival dates are expected to be added soon. The Laid Back Festival began as a one-off concert in Wantagh in 2015 that was headlined and curated by Allman, and expanded to a multi-city event last year.
