Spitfire MusicThe Dead Daisies, the hard-rock act featuring ex-members of Mötley Crüe, Whitesnake and Thin Lizzy, will show their patriotic spirit on July 4 by releasing their live cover of Grand Funk Railroad‘s chart-topping 1973 hit “We’re an American Band” as a digital single.
The group also will debut a video to accompany the tune on Independence Day, which takes place this Tuesday.
“We’re an American Band” is among the many tracks featured on The Dead Daisies’ recently released live album, Live and Louder, which also includes covers of The Who‘s “Join Together,” Creedence Clearwater Revival‘s “Fortunate Son” and The Beatles‘ “Helter Skelter,” as well as various original tunes.
“We first did ‘American Band’…for our troops in South Korea. We wanted to bring a little bit of something ‘American’ to our men and women in uniform, and give them a taste of home,” says Dead Daisies/ex-Mötley Crüe frontman John Corabi. “So, what better way than a classic American tune by a legendary American band?”
“The song went over so well we decided to keep playing it and subsequently recorded it for our Live and Louder album,” he adds. “Enjoy the Daisies version, the video, and your FREEDOM the troops are fighting for on this celebration of our independence as a young, sovereign nation!!”
The Dead Daisies’ version of “We’re an American Band” also will be available via various streaming services.
The band is currently winding down a European trek that wraps up Saturday, July 1, and then will head to Japan and Latin America for a series of July shows.
