Petaluma Arts Center is pleased to announce two new exhibitions:

AMERICANA REIMAGINED
Featuring selected works by Inez Storer: States of Anxiety, States of Hope
March 12-April 18

Opening Reception March 12th 5:30 – 7:30 pm (free with RSVP here)

On the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, Americana Reimagined invited artists from across the greater Bay Area to explore, reinterpret, and reimagine the visual language of “Americana”. This juried exhibition looks beyond nostalgia to examine how familiar symbols, stories, and styles evolve over time—bridging the past and present through creativity and craft.

“Americana” has long served as a reflection of everyday life and culture, from small-town iconography and handmade crafts to design movements and popular imagery. In Americana Reimagined, artists reexamine this broad theme, juxtaposing the old and the new, and honoring timeless motifs while offering fresh perspectives on what they mean today.

Jurors: Donna Seager, Donna Seager Fine Arts & Artists’ Books; Richard Neill, Multimedia Artist and Film curator; and Simon Corwin, Petaluma Artist and Jewelry Designer

In our North Gallery, PAC presents States of Anxiety, States of Hope, a selection of works by artist Inez Storer that reflect on the emotional, cultural, and political complexities of contemporary life. Building on themes explored in Americana Reimagined, Storer’s paintings offer a layered meditation on identity, memory, and collective experience in times of uncertainty and transformation.

Through her distinctive magical realist collage method, Storer constructs richly textured visual narratives that merge personal history with broader social realities. Her works are composed of fragments—symbols, images, and artifacts drawn from her life and interests. Storer's paintings guide the viewer on a journey through both historical memory and internal landscapes. They balance darkness and light, anxiety and hope.  She asks us to reflect on the conditions of our moment. States of Anxiety, States of Hope affirms art’s capacity to illuminate struggle while nurturing resilience, empathy, and connection.

Alongside Storer’s PAC exhibition, Icehouse Gallery across the street will be exhibiting “Inez Storer – Works on Paper” from March 7 – 28. Icehouse Gallery will be open during PAC’s reception on Thursday, March 12, from 5:30-7 pm. More info here.
